Thriller Film Posters Analysis

The Transporter

The Transporter film poster is very stereotypical of a thriller film. The characters on the poster are very typical of the genre, the male is middle aged around his 30-40 show that he is mature and been through a lot so he can over come problems that he is faced with typical in the thriller genre. The female on the film poster is also very stereotypical of the genre she is the typical 'Femme Fetale' pretty, young around 20-30, connoting that she doesnt know alot about life and needs the help on the man for her safety.

The cinematic style of the film is given away from the film poster, as it is very dark suggesting that the movie is going to have scenes of low key lighting. The colours on the poster are very typical of the genre as they are dark masculine colours, black suggesting the dark nature of the film, red showing love or symbolising blood/death, yellow and white.

The Iconography of the poster is typical of a thriller films, the costume the girl is wearing in the poster is very common, short showing a lot of flesh and sexual very typical for a thriller film. The man is wearing typical male clothes jeans and a top. In the background of the poster you can just make out a car, this is also typical in a thriller film to have high tech equipment.





The car also connotes the narrative of the film that it will include lots of exciting car chases. The flame over the film title connotes that there is going to be a lot of violent murders also a stereotypical narrative in a thriller film.

The fact there is a man and woman on the cover of the film poster suggests that the theme of the film might be love, but the fire and the car on the poster suggest that film will contain violence.


           Taken

The film poster of this thriller film Taken is very stereotypical of the thriller genre. The Character on the cover of the poster is very stereotypical of the genre as he is in his 30-40's, his age and the serious look on his face suggests that he has already seen a lot in his life and he is very wise and knowledgeable. 

The cinematic style of this film is shown by the colours on the film poster, suggesting that it is going to have a lot of low key lighting scenes. Also, the location of the film is given away Paris (Eiffel Tower) and being in a urban city is very typical for a thriller film. The colours on the poster are very typical black indicating the dark nature of the film, the red connoting danger, and the white is also a very masculine colour.

The iconography of the poster is very typical for a thriller film he is dressed in casual wear with big black coat to show mystery,  the character on the poster is caring a gun the most typical weapon in a thriller movie.

The narrative of the movie is given away from the weapon the man is carrying, connoting that is the movie there is going to be a lot of violent murders, making the audience think that there are going to be situations that he can't get out of.

The theme of the film is given away on the film poster when it says 'They Took His Daughter, He'll Take Their Lives', this shows that the theme of the movie is going to be revenge.
